The integration of the European member states into one single market has started over 25 years ago and is still ongoing.
The single market guarantees the free movement of goods, capital, services and labour, known as the four freedoms. To achieve those freedoms the single market has today, its members had to give up sovereign rights and the EU government had to introduce new regulations and directives, which now govern the business environment.
"We are not there yet, but we are getting there!"
In October 2015 the European Commission has introduced a new Single Market Strategy to minimize trade barriers and create an ever deeper and fairer single market. The constant improvement of the European market for businesses and consumers makes it more attractive for businesses from third countries than ever before. Those businesses are seeking for an optimal market access strategy and will enjoy:
- 500 million consumers who are looking for high quality goods - The largest single market with transparent rules and regulations - Secure legal investment framework that is amongst the most open in the world - Most open market to developing countries in the world
